It is a 16th century mansion with up-to-date facilities, and in excellent order.. Even with open fires it is still very clean. The breakfast was excellent. It is a very safe and private location.
The menu is limited if you cant eat meat. I would avoid sataying here if there was a wedding that day!

It was beautiful, peaceful and extremely comfortable, all staff were so welcoming. The food was fantastic and beautifully presented. The room just gorgeous, with the offset bathroom down a small corridor.

This hotel was chosen as a bit of a splash out for my wife and I and what a fantastic decision. The entrance is like something out of a Harry Potter novel and the whole place is like one of those full of character places out of a dickens novel. That is until you enter a room where the decor is amazing like Italian Renaisance with baths set into walls and beautiful views, four poster beds just amazing. My wife jumped up in the air when entering our room. To add to the whole holiday Jan (pronounced Yan) gave us a life back in the Rolls Royce Silver Spur 3. I could not wish not my wife for a better break and will definitelt be booking a function here. The food was really amazing very nouveau cuisine and you can get married in every single room

Quiet and peacefull with background staff there when required. Excellent facilties a very quiet and calming experience. loved the location and loved the area.
One little point, tea sugar and coffeee facilities in the room. Had to keep phoning for room service. More supplies to cater for more than one cup of tea, it was a busy weekend with visits to the hotel to change and go back out.

Fine food including for the Funeral dinner as well as our evening meal the day before. Grounds are very pleasant ond on another occaion cofffe in the mornig and a srink before lunch or dinner out side would be very attractive,
Right turn into the hotel reception entrance could be better signed. We went up to the Caravan park first!

Pleasant property staff on shift. The location was good and beautiful, to a great pub down the road where we had an excellent dinner. And it was also close enough to the Lake District, the lovely gardens and WITH THE CASTLE.
That WiFi connection was missing.

Excellent place to relax and enjoy fine food and fine wine. "Mine Host" was simply the best - friendly ,efficient and attentive. Service is first class if you understand that at quiet times all you need to do is ring the bell on the reception desk and someone will appear in seconds to attend to your every need.

It was a romantic break and the staff were so warm and polite. The meal was fantastic in a very spacious yet romantic setting. Room was large and in design to the setting of the hall.
The only thing I didnt like was having to leave !

A delightful hotel with an intriguing history, in very attractive surroundings Our one night stay was very comfortable and the dinner was outstanding. The proprietor was particularly helpful.
The hotel is used frequently for weddings and it might be best to avoid these times if you want the peace and solitude which we experienced.
